Become a Poll Worker!

Precinct Officials play a critical role in successful elections. Jackson County employs qualified residents to serve in this capacity. Those interested in becoming a Poll Worker may fill out an application and will be contacted by our office. Those employed receive monetary compensation for training sessions and workdays. 


Qualifications:

  • Be a registered voter & resident of Jackson County. (Residents of other NC counties can utilize the State Board of Elections Democracy Heroes form to connect with the appropriate county.)
  • Must not be an elected government official; manager or treasurer for any candidate or political party
  • Must not be a candidate in the election or near relative of a candidate or elected official


Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Be able to act in a professional, impartial, non-partisan and non-political manner
  • Be able to decipher information provided by voters
  • Ensure elections are fair and accurate
  • Attend required trainings
  • Availability during election hours and for any post-election needs


Frequently Used Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Computer & technology skills
  • Clear and effective verbal and written communication
  • Organization and direction of polling place activities
  • Ability to lift or move precinct supplies and equipment
